Getting Underway _ No Boat

In 2003 Dekker started to send "virtual postcards" via Internet as a way to remain in contact with people she met and will never forget. All together they became a diary.

Through the images she returns to the places where she has lived, she traces the route of her journey using memories of her own land, usually portraying Zeeland, the island where she grew up, and guardian of her history and past.

Song lines of lyrics from country music or sailor songs accompany the pictures and they concern all the aspects of wandering: coming home, desire, leaving and nostalgia. Neither intentionally intellectual nor emotional they reflect the state of mind of the artist: sometimes sad and sometimes funny, sometimes boring and sometimes touching.
